Arkansas Trucking Industry
Many aspects have made Arkansas a leader in the trucking industry since the mid-twentieth century, though the state’s location was a detriment to industrial development and the transportation before World War II. Arkansas is named as a transportation hub for its interstate highway system since states with major cities border it. Increased growth of population toward South and West caused the need for transportation between the cities.
Arkansas’ trucks have transported 89.04% of net manufactured tonnage in the state (i.e., 499,729 tons a day). Also, more than 86% of communities depends on trucks to move their goods since the state has a well-developed trucking industry.
HVUT
Vehicles operating on public highways with a gross weight exceeding 55,000 pounds must pay heavy vehicle use tax (HVUT) annually. If you have a qualifying vehicle that carries goods and people with a liable gross weight under IRS, the annual tax will be calculated every year, and one must clear the tax dues within the given due date.
IFTA
IFTA is a fuel tax agreement formerly started by and among the 48 contiguous States and the 10 Canadian provinces bordering the US. Each tax rate will be calculated based on gallons purchased, miles traveled and GVWR with respect to all member jurisdiction. Since, IFTA is estimated on a quarterly basis you must report the tax before the due date of each quarter.
